ELECTRONICA

They landed with us in the jet stream caused by Daft Punk’s glorious landing in 1997 but Phillippe Zdar and Hubert Boom-Bass have always been smarter than the average bears when it came to the dancefloor. Despite cameos from Pharrell Williams and Sebastien Tellier this is very much their own vision. Mainlining the same retro-funk porn soundtrack sound that keeps Goldfrapp in hot pants one minute and chopping up line of fat acid house for all in the next, this is a varied, ambitious album that tries to break out of any conventions drawn up about ‘French house music’. Something of a Gallic Basement Jaxx with as many throbbing highs but a sprinkling of fuzzy comedowns too.
