Edinburgh's Official Chinese New Year concert returns to the Usher Hall

A multicultural musical voyage with artists and soloists from China and Scotland

The Asian Association of Culture, Commerce and Education in Europe is once again pleased to present the official Chinese New Year Concert at the Usher Hall on Sat 9 Feb 2019. Chinese New Year, known as the Spring Festival or Lunar New Year in China, will be celebrated on stage by the Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Edinburgh Singers, and many outstanding artists and soloists from China and Scotland.

The concert involves instrumental performances and vocal virtuosos, with Chinese folk pieces such as 'Jasmine Flower' (茉莉花) and 'Blooming Flowers and Full Moon' (花好月圆) chosen for the occasion, combining traditional elements with the orchestration of Western music traditions.

In addition to the Chinese folk classics, there will also be a few favourites from the Western classical repertoire alongside some contemporary pieces by Bob Chilcott and James MacMillan. Young dancers will perform a specially choreographed routine to the well-loved 'Blue Danube', played by a live orchestra. The spectacle promises to delight all the senses, with the night concluding with a never before heard rendition of 'Auld Lang Syne'.

Join in this musical celebration to say farewell to the loyalty and honesty of the Dog, while welcoming the happiness and gentleness of the Pig.

Edinburgh Official Chinese New Year Concert, Usher Hall, Sat 9 Feb, 6pm, £15–£20 (£10–£15), usherhall.co.uk.
