Magic Gareth’s Magic Eye ★★★★☆

This balloon-wielding Rubik’s Cube enthusiast returns to the Fringe with a whole new collection of mind-bending magic tricks and terrific tomfoolery. School-aged kids can’t get enough of Magic Gareth’s optical illusions, surprising games and laughably predictable jokes. Sharing some of his favourite toys from the 90s (including the titular puzzle), Magic Gareth effortlessly engrosses a group of giggling children for 40 minutes of non-stop fun.

Traditional tricks including a self-tying rope, classic card magic and a surprisingly impressive floating table prove this loveable clown is an expert entertainer. MG (Magic Gareth) adapts to his audience, involves more than just the front rows in his antics and throws in a few fun facts for good measure. His super-silly show fills the whole of the iconic Cabaret Bar with contagious laughter and plenty applause.

A high-stakes game of ‘water-gun roulette’ splashes the comic’s young crowd to their absolute delight. Our magician manages to find the world’s biggest balloon in time for his show’s finale, which he squeezes onto his head in true MG fashion. With some seriously impressive tricks and a natural ability to conduct a crowd of kids, Magic Gareth’s Magic Eye is an ideal afternoon for the family.

Pleasance Courtyard, until 29 August, 12.25pm.
