Katie Pritchard: Disco Ball ★★★☆☆

Wonderfully wacky and infectiously fizzy, this one-of-a-kind comedy-musician will leave you saying ‘whatever that was . . . I enjoyed it’. A comedy script which sprung into life over an eventful past two years (she was dumped by her partner/ex-flatmate), Katie Pritchard’s Disco Ball is a festival of sheer ridiculousness. The Musical Comedy Award winner shares a hilariously bizarre discography of original songs, while quick-changing into an array of artistically interesting homemade costumes. Some outfit highlights include a packet of KP Nuts and a t-shirt with a surprisingly well-drawn version of Robert De Niro as a feline from Cats: The Musical on it (a concept that also gets its own musical number).

She uses self-recorded audio-descriptions to explain her haphazard costume changes; a technique that cleverly creates more opportunities for laughs while catering to those who benefit from video-description. Between her fantastically mad melodies, her stand-up material is as relevant, relatable and ridiculous as she is.
From belting out her longstanding and unwitherable hatred for mayonnaise to singing sexy songs about Scrabble, this bubbly bundle of joy turns the Pleasance Courtyard’s Cellar into an unorthodox disco extravaganza. Katie Pritchard radiates tidal waves of pure silliness, making it impossible to frown in her presence. Not for everyone, but undoubtedly enjoyable.
Pleasance Courtyard, until 29 August, 6.05pm.
