In recent years, the pantomime at Glasgow's Webster's Theatre has become an unusual treat for audiences willing to ignore the high-profile shows at the SEC, King's and Pavilion theatres. Insideout's productions avoid the spectacle, but lend the traditional pantomime fairy-tales a distinctive Glaswegian humour and demonstrate how a witty script and an energetic cast can capture a slightly sardonic but generous Christmas spirit.

'I love telling stories from a different point of view,' artistic director and writer Paul Harper-Swan explains. 'A lot of classic Pantomimes have the same story with the same structure. I love when the audience leave and say "I'll never look at that story the same way again." And I love that every year our loyal audiences don't know what to expect!'

For 2018, Britney and the Beast takes on a tale told by Disney, and rescues it, a little, from the schmaltz. 'The idea behind them is to take a classic pantomime story, give it a Glasgow feel and translate it to the present day. I see it more as a mini musical and try to make it as relatable as possible to the audience,' Harper-Swan continues. While remaining suitable for all the family, Britney promises to be a sweet and tough, all-singing and dancing celebration of a 'strong independent woman who isn't your normal fairytale princess!'
