Kiri Pritchard-McLean: Home Truths ★★★☆☆

Using her extravagant outfit to dive into an exposition about the troubles of high-street shopping for a plus-size lady in her 30s, Kiri Pritchard-McLean goes on to explore the best ways to describe her levels of fatness and confidence. Her ‘prosecco paunch’, though a challenge when looking for jeans, has its advantages and inspired her to procure 1000 ‘gunt’ bumbags as comedy merch.
The body talk is fairly amusing, but it goes on too long. Pritchard-McLean triggers the most raucous laughter when she gives some daring advice: if you’re a woman looking for a man, try to find one with a dead mum. Arriving at the kernel of Home Truths, Pritchard-McLean describes her feelings of alienation inside and out of her homeland, Wales, where she is sometimes treated as an outsider for learning Welsh too late.

After giving some interesting facts about Welsh history and the British government’s cruel methods of stamping out the local language, she transitions clumsily to discussing the fight against white supremacy. Using a clever chicken-nugget analogy to make an important point humorously, she awkwardly positions herself as the recently enlightened educator against ignorant, morally complacent audiences and comedians.
