Ania Magliano: Absolutely No Worries If Not ★★★☆☆

This is billed as Ania Magliano’s coming-out show as she’s letting everyone know about her bisexuality. Though as it turns out, it was already on her Instagram. But it’s also the promising Magliano setting out her stall with a fine debut hour. An assured performer, she possesses the timing and confident air of a veteran despite her relative youth.

This is very much an ‘introduction-to’ type show as Magliano paints an evocative portrait of her Gen Z life. As well coming out to her parents about her sexuality, she finds plenty of her own truths to be explored. Although she might be mostly an extrovert according to the Myers Briggs personality test, sex with strangers nevertheless isn’t for her.

The stand-out piece of the hour is a routine on ‘horse girls’; as Magliano points out, everyone knows a girl who would muck out the local stables just to hang around with their favourite animals. Magliano creates a prolonged sequence that she milks for all its worth, and it turns out there are plenty of laughs from a nicely ridiculous idea. Absolutely No Worries If Not is a loosely themed work of solid stand-up.
