Siobhan Wilson announces Edinburgh show, releases new song ‘Unst Boat Song’

Siobhan Wilson has announced a show at Edinburgh’s Traverse Theatre. Tickets for the show go on sale at 10am on Friday 24 March.

The show will take place on Friday 12 May, and features support from the Glasgow-based duo CLR Theory.

Alongside the tour announcement, Wilson released new track ‘Unst Boat Song’, her interpretation on Scotland’s oldest surviving sea prayer sung in Norn and Shetlandic dialect. It's a predictably sumptuous slice of folk music propelled by Wilson's unwaveringly romantic vocals.

Wilson said of the song, ‘The language I am singing in this song is Scotland’s own form of Old Norse, ‘Norn’, mixed with Shetlandic dialect. Norn is basically a Viking language spoken in Scotland, used conversationally up until only 150 years ago. The connections we have in Scotland with our Scandinavian ancestors is really important to me.

‘Some of our DNA in Scotland today is Viking! and that’s a part of who we are. The shared musical history between Scotland/Ireland and Scandinavia goes deep.’
