Dundead horror film festival line-up announced, includes David Cronenberg retrospective

Dundead, Dundee Contemporary Arts' annual horror film festival, has announced its spine-tingling line-up, which includes a retrospective of David Cronenberg alongside vintage gems, premieres and previews. Tickets for the festival go on sale at 10am on Wednesday 5 April.

Origin, which will open the festival.

Opening the festival is a preview of Origin, the feature debut from Scottish director Andrew Cumming which tells the story of a small group of travellers making their way through a rugged and dangerous prehistoric landscape. Other new films on the bill are Abruptio (receiving its European premiere), Dark Nature (receiving its Scottish premiere), No More Time (receiving its UK premiere), Polaris (receiving its Scottish premiere) and Satanic Hispanics (receiving its Scottish premiere).

This year’s retrospective of David Cronenberg will include the head exploding schlock fest Scanners, alongside his body horror masterworks Videodrome, The Brood, Dead Ringers and The Fly (fans of Jeff Goldblum topless, this is the screening for you).

The Fly, a tour de force of Jeff Goldblum nudity, will screen on Sunday 14 May.

For fans of obscure horror, the Dundead team have unearthed 1973 cult classic Messiah Of Evil to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Telling the story of a young woman searching for her missing father, it’s an atmospheric mixture of giallo and slow-burn tension that we personally can’t wait to see on a big screen.

You can enjoy the whole horror-filled weekend with a full Dundead Festival Pass for £93. This includes a ticket to all 12 films, the Dundead Film Quiz, a t-shirt and a special edition print featuring a new Dundead design by Scott Balmer. A six-film pass, which includes a Dundead t-shirt, is also available for £48.

Festival programmer Michael Coull said, "I’m really excited for this year’s Dundead festival – our 11th full edition – and can't wait to welcome our audience into the cinema for four days of the best in horror, new and old!’
