Susan Riddell: Wonder Woman comedy review – TikToker aims to spread her influence
Musings about teeth and feet gives the Glaswegian comic a license to be zany

The title is not because Susan Riddell thinks that she’s amazing, but more because there are a lot of things she finds herself wondering about. Like: what’s with all those people cutting about nowadays with very dazzling bright white Turkey teeth? This Glaswegian stand-up’s TikTok video on the matter has had almost 30 million views and when she plays it for us tonight, a lot of the crowd suddenly have an, ‘ah, that was you!’ moment. That happens a lot apparently, Riddell tells us. She’s made a special follow-up video about the much-viewed toothy man for her Fringe show, one of a few daft slices of DIY footage she shares.

The pre-made material works well, showing Riddell at her zany, nonsensical best. Some of the live stand-up is delivered a mite nervously and apologetically, with too much explanation on what’s about to happen. It feels like she needs to have more faith in her material and then she’d be able to take things to that next level. Maybe the kickboxing, ex-beauty therapist with occasional anti-neoliberal views and ongoing foot neuroses should lean into her batshit superpowers and see where that takes her.
Susan Riddell: Wonder Woman, Gilded Balloon Teviot, until 27 August, 7pm.
