AROUND TOWN

Set in the spectacular surroundings of Tir na nOg (near Trossachs National Park), the Scottish Wild Food Festival (Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 September) offers a feast for the soul and senses as it combines dining experiences, foraging walks and wild cocktail-making with live music, bushcraft and more.

Blending education, advocacy and discovery, true crime event CrimeCon Glasgow (Saturday 16 September) allows you to delve deeper into cases. You’ll have the chance to hear from law enforcers, filmmakers, podcasters and survivors.

Part of this year’s Scottish Geology Festival, a remarkable earth heritage site will be opening its doors. Open Day At Fossil Grove, Glasgow (Sunday 17 September) takes you into the interior of the Victoria Park building, which houses an astonishing collection of 330 million year old trees.

Promising to wrap summer up in spectacular style, FLY Open Air (Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 September) returns to Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens for two days of dancing till you drop, featuring sets from Chris Stussy, DJ BORING, Hayley Zalassi, horsegiirL and more.

Benefit concert Glasgow Stands With Ukraine (Saturday 16 September) brings together Scottish, Ukrainian and international musicians, writers and poets in a show of solidarity with the courage and defiance of the Ukrainian people. Lau, Elzara Batalova and Yoko Pwno are amongst those appearing.

Oktoberfest kicks off at Edinburgh’s beer palace Brewhemia this weekend and it promises to be their biggest celebration yet. Opening proceedings in rousing style are returning favourites The Jager Maestros (Friday 15 September), an authentic oompah band with a modern twist.

Witness the addiction, intoxication and empowerment of a previously sidelined woman in Dracula: Mina’s Reckoning (until Saturday 16 September), a uniquely Scottish take on the Bram Stoker classic from Morna Pearson and Sally Cookson. Catch it at Glasgow’s Theatre Royal.

Set 15 years after TrainspottingIrvine Welsh’s PORNO (until Saturday 16 September) catches up with Renton, Sickboy, Begbie and Spud. This full-length stage adaptation earned raves at the Edinburgh Fringe and it debuts at Glasgow’s King’s Theatre this weekend.

Award-winning Irish comic Neil Delamere is back with his brand new show Neil Delamere: Delamerium (Sunday 17 September) in which he tries to make sense of the world around him through funny stories, wry observations and quick-witted improv. Edinburgh’s The Stand plays host to the hilarity.

Turns out third time’s a charm for Kenneth Branagh’s Poirot adaptations. A Haunting In Venice goes heavy on the horror in an enjoyable supernatural spin on Agatha Christie’s Hallowe’en Party, featuring Michelle Yeoh and Tina Fey.

Living in the shadow of a sibling is explored in elegant Canadian drama Brother from Clement Virgo. Britain’s Aaron Pierre and Canada’s Lamar Johnson shine in this desperately sad story.

Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and co return for more early morning power struggles in Apple TV+ hit The Morning Show, which sees the UBA network hit by a cyber-attack and plunged into chaos. Jon Hamm joins the cast as the man with the money to fix things.

PODCASTS

Top Boy

In an effort to support striking workers, late night talk show hosts Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers and John Oliver come together for the mother of all chinwags in new podcast Strike Force Five.

To celebrate the final series of Top Boy landing last week, 1Xtra’s Sian Anderson delves into its legacy in Top Boy: From Estate To Icon with guests including Rapman, Avelino, Zeze Mellz and the show’s cast and crew.

If you fancy your news with some extra flavour, then BBC journalists Jonelle Awomoyi and Kirsty Grant will be serving up the biggest stories in brand new weekly podcast Reliable Sauce, keeping you in touch and entertained.

Fleurs de Ville VOYAGE

Kicking off this weekend, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh plays host to the UK premiere of Fleurs de Ville VOYAGE (Friday 15 – Sunday 24 September). This innovative exhibition takes you on a journey of global discovery through a marquee filled with flower-festooned mannequins celebrating the cultures of the garden’s botanical collections.

Taking place at Edinburgh’s Out Of The Blue Drill Hall, A Closer Look (until Saturday 23 September) is an exhibition of artwork and creations by the Drill Hall Artists showcasing a wide variety of paintings, illustrations, jewellery, tapestry and embroidery.

Rupture, Rapture: Womxn In Collage (until Saturday 16 September) at the Patricia Fleming Gallery, Glasgow brings together over 20 collage works by 14 womxn artists, revealing collage as a feminist praxis of transformation, rupture and collision. Edie Baker, Gabrielle Lockwood Estrin, Hannan Jones and Sam Ainsley are amongst the artists featured.
