The origins of Strictly Come Dancing are hard to trace but are easy to speculate on. Presumably an inebriated TV executive was watching reality TV late at night, alone and probably wearing nothing but a pair of soiled Y-fronts, and thought, ‘Yeah it’s good, but how can I force respected news anchor Krishnan Guru-Murthy to perfect the cha cha for money?’ 

That TV executive sobered up by morning, threw on some clothes and swiftly brought his idea to the BBC. More than two decades later, celebs off the telly continue to jiggle their moneymaker to the delight of viewers everywhere, and the venerable series has spawned a seemingly infinite number of spin offs on the live circuit.
