6 best bonfire nights in Scotland for 2023

The ritual burning of Guy Fawkes is a great night out for the whole family and, despite plenty of bonfire nights closing their doors in the wake of covid, there are still plenty of fireworks displays taking place across Scotland. Here are six of the best.

Aberdeen

Aberdeen’s display will take place at Beach Boulevard on Sunday 5 November at 7.30pm, and will be hosted by Jeff and Lauren In The Morning from local radio station Northsound 1. There will be a charity fire walk starting at 6.30pm. This one’s free to attend.

Hopetoun House

The firework spectacular at Hopetoun House will take place on Saturday 4 November and will feature a ‘A Night At The Movies’ theme, so expect plenty of films scores from the good o’ days of Hollywood celluloid alongside a handful of carnival rides and food stalls. The fun will begin at 4pm. This is sold out, but you can join the waiting list in case any tickets free up.

Glasgow

Glaswegians will be able to enjoy an all-day extravaganza at Glasgow Fort and the Glasgow North East Fireworks Festival. The event will begin at 11am and run through the day and evening on Sunday 5 November, with highlights including performances from the stalwart R&B group The Drifters, Motown, a live wrestling show, and the fireworks display at 7pm. Not bad for a free event.

Falkirk

Falkirk’s Callendar Park will play host to this year’s firework extravaganza on Sunday 5 November at 6.30pm with a helping hand from local DJ Craigie P. The display itself will light up the night sky from 7.30pm. Another one that’s free to attend.

Perth

Taking place at South Inch Park from 7pm on Sunday 5 November, Perth’s fireworks display will go out with a bang this year. Organisers have requested that visitors refrain from bringing sparklers to ensure the park’s tidy at the event’s end.

Troon

Troon will host their family friendly fireworks display between 4pm and 9.30pm on Saturday 4 November, which promises a host of carnival rides to kids to enjoy. This is another free to attend event, but organisers have a suggested donation of £10 per family.

Whitelee

Something completely different to cap off this round-up – a ‘nae fireworks’ event for dog owners at Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre on Sunday 5 November. Starting at 5.30pm, this free event is your chance to walk your dogs free from the frightening sound of explosions.
