The first wave of acts involved in Edinburgh’s First Footin’ New Year’s Day music trail for 2024 have been announced, and includes major acts like Hot Chip, The Fergus McCreadie Trio, Kathryn Joseph and more. 

Scottish rap's shining star Bemz will perform in association with the SAY Awards

After a successful inaugural year, the free trail will come in association with the Scottish Album of The Year Awards, who will welcome a selection of 2023’s Shortlisted artists to the live music trail, with nominees Becky SikasaBemzCloth, and this year’s Sound of Young Scotland winner No Windows performing at the Assembly Rooms Music Hall.

The impressive line-up also includes numerous luminaries of the Scottish music scene, including an exclusive collaboration between folk experimentalists Lau and cult singer-songwriter Kathryn JosephAn afternoon of award-winning jazz from Fergus McCreadie Trio and special guests Juliette Lemoine & Chris Amer, 2022 Leonard Bernstein Award Sean Shibe and special guest violinist Mira Benjamin, a live music score performed by the Graeme Stephen Trio to classic silent movies, and an afternoon of ceilidh dancing with Mull’s Hannah Fisher Ceilidh Band. 

Hot Chip will DJ at Virgin Hotels on New Year's Day

Perhaps the hottest ticket on the bill are Hot Chip, who’ll perform an afternoon DJ set at Virgin Hotels alongside special guests. ‘An evening of revelry’ is also promised from the First Footin’ Sessions with Cold Town Beer taking place in a selection of Edinburgh’s pubs and bars. 

The day-long event is another welcome addition to Edinburgh’s stuffed line-up for the Hogmanay season, which includes performances from Pulp, Björn Again, Massaoke and more. 

The full programme for First Footin’ will be announced this December.
