Making his return to the stage after a sold-out run last year, Cantona Sings Eric will find the mercurial polymath double down on his unexpected left turn from footballing legend into a writer of Gallic-inflected rock ‘n’ roll. Kicking off proceedings at Dublin’s Liberty Hall on Wednesday 10 April, King Eric will then hit venues in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Newcastle, Leeds, London and Wolverhampton, with a final UK date at Manchester’s Palace Theatre on Saturday 20 April. 

Still best known as one of the finest footballers of the 1990s, the eccentric sporting star has since turned his hand to acting (his turn in Ken Loach’s 2009 film Looking For Eric is well worth seeking out), music, poetry and photography. No matter his artistic achievements, we’ll always fondly remember the gnomic pronouncements he made during interviews in his heyday as Manchester United’s star player (our personal favourite: ‘When the seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.’)

His most recent single ‘I’ll Make My Own Heaven’ was released last year, showcasing his Leonard Cohen-ish vocals and penchant for the peacocking sound of classic rock. Listen to it below.
