Great family-friendly conventions coming to the Royal Highland Centre

World renowned for its annual Royal Highland Show and summer festivals and dance music events, the Royal Highland Centre has much more up its sleeve, including a vast range of conventions. From car and motorcycle extravaganzas to furnishing exhibitions, the RHC has hosted them all over its storied history.

Easily accessible via public transport, including several bus routes, the Ingliston Park & Ride tram stop and shuttle buses from two nearby railway stations, the Royal Highland Centre has a full programme for the year ahead. Here’s just a small sample of their upcoming family-friendly conventions.

First up is Brick Fest Live (Saturday 4–Monday 6 May). For the first time ever, the world’s largest hands-on LEGO event makes its way from the US to debut in Edinburgh. Brick Fest Live gives families the chance to enjoy mind-blowing creations from all over the world, made entirely from LEGO bricks. Visitors will be able to get up close to life-sized LEGO models, enjoy building activities, and explore a huge marketplace populated by rare collectables unavailable anywhere else.

Tabletop Live (Friday 6–Sunday 8 September) is a convention for people who like to get hands-on with their entertainment. Whether you’re into board, card or role-playing games, there’s something for everyone (with a broad range of sets for solo, team play or competition). Guests can browse the expansive merch collection, speak to people from the games companies themselves, and choose from hundreds of titles in the library to try out in the play-test zone.

Completing this taster of conventions, Comic Con Scotland (Saturday 5 & Sunday 6 October) is one of the largest pop culture events in Europe, attracting thousands to the RHC’s Highland Hall. This year’s guests include Sean Astin (The Goonies, The Lord Of The Rings, Stranger Things), Sean Pertwee (Event Horizon, Dog Soldiers, Elementary) and Craig Charles (Red Dwarf, Robot Wars, Coronation Street). Fans will be able to get up close and personal with memorabilia from their favourite TV, film and game franchises, browse merchandise, and get creative with cosplay.

Brick Fest Live is on Saturday 4–Monday 6 May, Tabletop Live is on Friday 6–Sunday 8 September, and Comic Con Scotland is on Saturday 5 & Sunday 6 October. All events take place at the Royal Highland Centre.
