Spit It Out festival unveils 2024 programme
The inclusive line-up will return for its third outing with a bevvy of events across 14 venues in Glasgow, Edinburgh and online

Creative arts charity Spit It Out has revealed the programme for its third Spit It Out festival, featuring five performance nights, three exhibitions, 31 workshops, two community lunches, screenings, and a mini-sports day in 14 venues across Glasgow, Edinburgh and online.

Taking place from Thursday 6–Sunday 16 June, highlights from the Edinburgh programme include the opening of Half Eaten, a new exhibition by Zindzi Hudson; consent workshop The Aye Consent Lab; Where Words And Movements Meet: Intersectional Storytelling in Journalism, a workshop from multimedia platform Shadow Mag; an open mic edition of 249 Ramshackle Queer Party; poetry evening Queer Stories: From Marginalisation To Empowerment; screenings and Q&As for the films Friends On The Outside and Everything Worthwhile Is Done With Other People.
In Glasgow, Spit It Out highlights include new exhibition Bitter Smell from Paria Goodarzi; a workshop centred around honouring ‘queer ancestors’; an all-POC gig night; an all-POC poetry evening in collaboration with Refugee Scotland Festival; and a community radio project titled Music, Misogyny & Mental Health: In Conversation With Friends.
The suite of in-person performances and workshops will be complemented by online offerings, including an open mic poetry session and a number of workshops on racial capitalism, the art of synaesthesia, and how to build a creative career without a creative degree.
Last year, we spoke to festival organisers Bee Asha Singh and filmmaker Léa Luiz de Oliveira about the 2023 edition of Spit It Out. Oliveira told us, '‘I like to think that we give a chance for people to grow, and to try new things and find some sense of belonging. People can come and go, but we’re always going to be there.’ Read the full feature here.
