NT Art Month Q&A: &Gallery
As part of NT Art Month campaign in Edinburgh, we’re running a series of Q&As with participating galleries. Next up, it’s &Gallery

Tell us why NT Art Month is a good thing? NTAM is a great opportunity to celebrate the fantastic art scene we have here in Edinburgh, whilst bringing all the galleries together for the event. We look forward to welcoming new visitors into the gallery and showcasing the diverse art we represent.

Can you sum up the ethos of your gallery? &Gallery curates a specialist programme of solo exhibitions of represented artists along with curated group shows. Our emphasis is on abstract and minimal painting, drawing and sculpture, by artists at various stages of their career who are located in Scotland, as well as throughout the UK and worldwide.
Is there a piece (or two) in your gallery which particularly reflects this ethos? Each gallery artist reflects our ethos in a different way, making it difficult for us to select one. Joan Doerr’s abstract painting ‘A Simple Plan’ focuses heavily on marking and is constructed through the process, whereas Michael Craik’s minimal paintings explore the interplay of colour using a reductive technique.
Name another gallery in NT Art Month that you especially admire? We admire all the NT Art Month galleries. All galleries have their own unique style and high-quality programme of exhibitions.
What do you think makes the art scene in the New Town special? The New Town has a diverse variety of galleries, from young emerging galleries to long-established institutions, making the New Town an enjoyable place to explore.
&Gallery, Dundas Street, Edinburgh; NT Art Month runs from Friday 7–Sunday 30 June.
