Glasgow filmmaker producing debut feature following successful Kickstarter
Fight Me is the story of an accountant who fights back and rails against misogyny
Glaswegian filmmaker Sarah Grant is seeking funds through Kickstarter to finance her debut feature, Fight Me. The writer has spent the past ten years working in film and TV and is confident that she’s gained enough experience to bring her project (which she describes as The Office US meets Bottoms) successfully to life.
Outlining her script, Grant says ‘Fight Me is the story of Terry, plus-size wallflower accountant and period romance novel addict, and how her life (and the microcosm of society that is her corporate office) is irrevocably changed, when one day she snaps and punches the office misogynist in the face. While everything in her screams to apologise and restore the status quo of the office, she can’t help but notice that things are better for everyone after the punch. Maybe things shouldn’t go back to the way they were? In order for this shy and mousey woman to stand her ground, she must let go of the heroine she aspires to be from one of her books - demure and spirited, like Jane Bennet from Pride And Prejudice - and learn to embody heroines with more fight and rage - like Xena: Warrior Princess - especially when the man who was punched challenges her to a rematch.’
Grant is seeking ‘all or nothing’ funds of at least £10,000 and she has already reached that milestone so the film is expected to go into pre-production imminently, before shooting in October and November. If all goes to plan then Fight Me should hit screens from June next year.
Rewards for backers range from a ‘metaphorical pint’ for £4 to an executive producer credit for £3,000. The Kickstarter will close on Monday 1 July.
