Lost Map, the Isle Of Eigg-based record label owned by musician Johnny Lynch, has announced a permanent base of operations at Edinburgh’s Good Vibes record store and studio.

The collaboration marks the first time the label has had its full catalogue on sale in a brick and mortar premises, and promises an evolution of the brand after its tenth anniversary in 2023.

Lynch says, ‘This partnership is a truly wonderful opportunity for Lost Map – we’re excited to be bringing our music to one of the most exquisitely curated record shops in the country. Given our unique situation on Eigg and the logistical challenges involved, we’ve always had a mainland base in Edinburgh for our webshop and distribution (run by Kate “Canaveral” Lazda).'

‘Over the past decade, the transition from a cupboard in Kate’s flat to larger spaces has been quite a journey, and finding a suitable location has been crucial,' Lynch continues. 'By partnering with Good Vibes, we’re making our music more readily available to fans, giving them the chance to explore a wider range of our artists’ work. Leith, with its vibrant and rapidly evolving cultural landscape, is the perfect location for this next chapter in Lost Map’s story.

‘We hope our shared presence with Good Vibes will add to the area’s dynamism and offer music enthusiasts a unique place to discover and enjoy new music.’

Good Vibes co-founder and co-owner Mike Bryant says, ‘Having Lost Map’s headquarters become part of our building and our shop is such an immeasurable joy. They are a label we have loved for so long now and have released some of our favourite records to date, so to have them be part of Good Vibes and have customers and fans get better access to one of the UK’s best small, independent record labels is so exciting for us.’

The partnership will kick off with a special launch night at Good Vibes on Saturday 13 July, featuring the Lost Map-signed artists Susan Bear and Both Hands, alongside a handful of live DJs.

Established in 2013, Lost Map has welcomed bands from a diverse range of genres to its roster, including Rozi Plain, Alabaster dePlume, Martha Ffion, Callum Easter and Alliyah Enyo. The label has also established its own Howlin’ Fling! festival on the Isle Of Eigg, established the Lost Map’s PostMap Club subscription service and set up the Lost Map Podcast, hosted by Lynch himself.

When we spoke to Good Vibes' owners Fiona and Mike Bryant last year, they told us, ‘Sometimes a more curated selection is so much easier on someone’s brain, especially if they understand the ethos of the space. They know that if they like certain things in here, they’ll probably enjoy a book or record that’s on display. We slowly realised that’s what people have enjoyed about the shop.’ Read the full interview here
