West Lothian quartet The Snuts are bringing indie rock back. Influenced by Britpop and the 00s scene 2018 has seen them come out of the gates firing on all cylinders. They've only just released their second official single ('Manhattan Project') but they've already spent the summer tearing up the festival circuit (including Reading, Leeds, Benicàssim, TRNSMT and Belladrum). They sold out the Scottish dates on their current tour in just one day having built up a reputation for their blistering live shows while early demos have racked up over a million plays.

We caught up with lead singer and guitarist Jack Cochrane to find out more

How did The Snuts first get together?
We've been friends since we met at primary school. Even from 12 years old we were playing instruments and got into going to gigs. There wasn't really anyone else at our school who was into the same music as us. But we gave it up when we got to about 15 because we thought we were brilliant but we were no good [laughs]. Then we got the band back together and recorded a demo in Glasgow and people in Scotland seemed really into it and it spread really quickly, so we recorded a few more demos and just carried on from there.

How would you describe your music?
It's all inclusive, with big melodies and choruses, it's music for everybody.

And who are your influences?
We grew up mostly listening to bands like The View who we've probably seen more than any other band. We've taken influences from a lot of the greats from the 00s indie music, your Arctic Monkeys and Libertines.

You've already picked up a big fanbase in Scotland. It must feel great selling out the Scottish shows so quickly.
Our first headline gig at King Tut's [in 2017] was a real game changer for us, when we realised this set and these songs are good enough to stand alone. In Scotland the scene is still pretty small so we are picking the right venues so when we put them on sale we hope they will sell out. And we're just lucky it went that way again.

When can we expect an album?
We've got a huge back catalogue of songs, we're spending as much time in studio developing as recording, because we record live, so we record really quickly so it's all about recording the right songs, that's what we're focusing on for the album. We've got a rough idea, I can't say too much but all will become clear.

The Snuts are currently touring the UK including La Belle Angele, Edinburgh, Thu 18 Oct; St Luke's Glasgow, 19 Oct; Lemon Tree, Aberdeen, Sat 20 Oct. They also play Dirty Weekender, Kilmarnock, Fri 23 Nov and EH6 Festival, Edinburgh, Sat 24 Nov.
