Natasha Pearl Hansen: The Right Amount Of Wrong comedy review – When a big day falls flat
Bizarre segues and punchy delivery as the comic makes the most of a dire situation

Natasha Pearl Hansen was supposed to get married but didn’t, so she made a comedy special out what was supposed to be her Big Day. We are absolutely here for her not-giving-a-fuck energy, and she brings every inch of it to the stage in what’s best described as a classic stand-up hour. Fast and energised, she jumps from anecdote to observation without a specific overarching theme or message. So if you don’t like a joke, just hang for a minute, there’ll be another one along swiftly; some of her segues are beautifully bizarre and offbeat, and all the better for it.
Hansen’s CV is accomplished and it shows: her delivery is punchy and timing impeccable. It’s a shame her obvious comedy smarts are let down by some of her material; we’re kind of over lockdown chat by now, and the pay-off to a rambling anecdote about her travels in Prague doesn’t justify the time spent on it. But when she’s at her best (usually talking about oral sex), she’s on fire. Not afraid to poke fun at herself, she brings an air of ‘all-American’ to the entirely insalubrious Cabaret Voltaire that’s impossible to resist.
