Moxie presents On Loop: 'It's essentially about having fun and pushing good quality dance music, both new and old'

NTS Radio resident returns with a new compilation and accompanying tour
Seemingly everywhere you look in the radio-DJ-party world, Moxie – otherwise known as Alice Moxom – is rapidly becoming one of the most prominent DJs in the UK, and beyond. As one of the longest-standing residents on London's NTS Radio, Moxie's reputation arose from her natural aptitude for radio presenting and music selection. This multi-talented artist proves she can DJ, present and curate: having run label and club series On Loop since 2016, Moxie regularly tours the country putting on parties, and is now awaiting the release of her fourth compilation series, Moxie Presents Volume Four.
So what does it take to put together the exclusive eight-track-compilation release? 'I have a list of artists I'd love to approach and then just work my way through it,' says Moxie, 'taking my time to see what comes in – as the tracks need to complement each other. The idea first came about as I wanted to create something that was an extension of my NTS radio show, using it as another avenue to support guests that have either come on the show, or people that I heavily support.'
This latest release features new tracks from US producer Byron The Aquarius, who has been previously promoted by Theo Parrish; Canadian and Berlin-based DJ/producer Bwana (Nathan Micay); Lady Blaktronika, who's been described by RA as the 'First Lady of Deep House'; and Lisbon-based DJ and producer, Violet – among others.
There's an even longer list of exciting names accompanying Moxie on her latest On Loop tour. 'There's a real varied bunch and a lot of exciting new talent that I'm really happy to have on the tour. Names like Louise Chen, Peach and Mor Elian for example. I'm particularly happy with the gender balance too as this is something I always try to be aware of when booking the nights. Looking back at our line-ups, we've actually had more women play then men over the years, which I'm super proud of. As well as the new names, we've got On Loop affiliates such as Shanti Celeste and Nabihah Iqbal who both featured on Volume 3, plus a few heavy hitters such as Leon Vynehall, Bradley Zero and Bwana.'
So what does Moxie aim for in her music, her label and her club series? 'With both the night and label it's an output to feature music that makes you feel good: it's essentially about having fun and pushing good quality dance music, both new and old. I'm drawn to music that has a groove and wants to keep you dancing, whether that's house, techno or disco. I'm also a sucker for a big vocal hook as I love a good sing-a-long!'
Moxie's tour hits Edinburgh on Fri 19 October, returning to her Scottish home in Sneaky Pete's. Having played the much-loved independent venue multiple times, the DJ speaks of the club with great affection: 'I absolutely adore Sneaky Pete's, it's one of my favourite venues to play and I've never had a bad night there. It ticks all the boxes: the staff are great, the sound is good and it has that vibe of a house party which is special. When I started On Loop, it was one of the first venues I approached to do the parties.'
Moxie Presents Volume Four is out on Fri 26 Oct. On Loop with Louise Chan hosted, by Moxie, Sneaky Pete's, Edinburgh, Fri 19 Oct.
