Zach & Viggo and Thumpasaurus: Where Does The Love Go?

Bizarre funk-opera that thrives on idiosyncratic partnerships

Where Does the Love Go? is a surreal trip through the minds of a group of creatives ranging from clowns to musicians and designers to animators. The story follows Alexo, a Pinocchio-like creation for the modern age, who goes up against Amazon behemoth Jeff Bezos in a futuristic and multimedia survival of the fittest.

While Zach & Viggo together make a formidable pairing with their childish tomfoolery and totally absurd brand of charm, it's clear that their clowning is only amplified by the soundtrack and script of this bizarre funk-opera. Tonight, animator Dylan Woodley (who has never been on stage before) stands in for an absent Viggo, something that would arguably be a recipe for disaster for most productions. But quite the opposite happens; while Viggo is obviously missed, the group effort and undeniable energy of Thumpasaurus both lift Woodley's debut performance and ensure that none of the material (however zany) is lost along the way.

Zach Zucker's physical comedy is on point, as he twerks, mimes and interpretive-dances his way through the story, and likewise, Jonny Woolley makes an excellently shady Bezos with his Adidas tracksuit and gold chain. There's a clear amateurish quality about Where Does the Love Go? but that's where the humour really lies. This is a fun and ultimately successful partnership that benefits from each act's idiosyncrasies.

Underbelly Cowgate, until 26 Aug, 9.20pm, £12 (£11).
