Actor and comedian Brennan Reece expertly combines these two disciplines in Evermore which he describes as 'a lovely story from a loveable boy about loving things'. What proceeds is an often unpleasant tale from a flawed but relatable young man who goes into excruciating detail about his adolescent awakening and his subsequent propensity to penetrate everything in the house, from carpets to furniture, even the bristle-lined letterbox.

Reece's performance flits between sparky audience interaction and a flawlessly executed spoken-word piece about his search for love. He uses the stand-up sections to emphasise various points and to build a rapport with his audience, and the result is deliciously unpredictable. His almost-constant rictus grin sort of gives it away: he's really not as soft as first appearances suggest, and you never quite know where his line of questioning will end up.

Accompanied on stage by two musicians, Reece evokes his tale through a fast-paced lyrical patter, often employing rhythmic cadence for emphasis. The musicians tailor their performance to match the story's ebb and flow, occasionally building to a crescendo as Reece makes his most imperative points. Evermore is a fascinating piece of storytelling, beautifully told.
