5 great ice cream joints in Glasgow
Time for a cold one?

Colpi
21 & 38 Main Street, Milngavie
Opened by Rodolfo Colpi in 1928, his family still follow the same recipe in the OG shop and have recently expanded to a gelateria opposite. The ice-cream is visibly hand-crafted; alongside a 100-year-old fior di latte recipe, expect several rolling flavours from classics to inventive Italian numbers.
La Gelatessa
38 Nithsdale Road
If the Southside sun is shining, you can bet your boots there will be a queue outside this little spot. Flavours don’t just feel unique, they feel honed to gelato’s more dense and full-on tendencies. We’re talking cinnamon brown butter or maple smoked almond. There’s also Sicilian granita on scoop.
Minted Ice Cream
262 Byres Road
Contemporary ice-cream parlour Minted specialises in gelato and soft-serve, with bonus cakes and bakes. Alongside classics there are plenty of experimental options, as well as seasonal and holiday specials. There are a few tables inside and out, and the shop’s as cute as a button.
Nowita
51 Hyndland Street
Mossgiel Farm in Ayrshire provides the milk and cream for this contemporary outfit where complementary flavours are everything. That means classics like rum and raisin, on-trend blends like matcha and caramel, or plant-based options like vegan blueberry cheesecake.
Peacock’s
62 Battlefield Road
Jennifer Clapp’s ice-cream operation went from hobby to business during lockdown, with a scoop shop opening in 2024. Top-quality ingredients go into the chunky US-style ice-cream, including two Great Taste Award winners: vanilla twice and the excellent gold (caramelised white chocolate with pistachio).
