5 reasons to go and see: Tartan Heart Festival - Belladrum 2009

1: The best new music in Scotland
Now in its sixth year, this perfectly formed Highland shindig outside Inverness has always been a champion of new Scottish music. This year is no exception, with The Phantom Band, Dananananakroyd, Unicorn Kid, St Deluxe and Our Lunar Activities among the many and varied highlights of the eclectic line up.
2: A trip down memory lane
Among the headliners are a recently reformed Toploader (yes, really!), who will no doubt be dancing in the moonlight alongside the likes of a rainbow-chasing Shed Seven (yes, really!)
3: It’s ceilidh central
There are specific stages and times for ceilidh action, but if past years are anything to go by, the whole weekend will pretty much be one long spontaneous Highland hootenanny.
4: Lloyd Grossman in a punk band
We’re not joking either. The pasta sauce impresario with the weird accent will be playing guitar in his band The New Forbidden.
5: A huge amount of fun, weird shit
Whisky tastings, saucy cabaret, mud sculpture, films, literature, comedy, bike races, The King of Farts, five-a-side football, nursery rhymes, ukulele karaoke, a Buddhist temple and something called the Homecoming Scotland Sideburns Stage. This truly is the daftest festival around and all the better for that.
Belladrum, Inverness-shire, Fri 7 & Sat 8 Aug.
