Glasgow's Festival 2018 programme has been released and is set to include hundreds of cultural events at venues and communities across the city. The vast majority of the events are free for all ages and involve over 3700 artists and performers.

Festival 2018 is part of the inaugural European Championships, a multi-sport event taking place over 11 days in August. The event is co-hosted between Glasgow and Berlin, Germany and events take place across both cities.

The programme organisers promise to showcase the creativity of Scotland's cultural sector, as well as retaining a truly European outlook to fit with the event and will feature international names as well as homegrown talent. Events range from immersive art installations, food and drink exhibitions and impressive concerts.

Events not to be missed include the opening party on Wed 1 Aug that kicks off the European Championships and is expected to welcome thousands of people to George Square to see Scottish musicians like Sacred Paws, C Duncan and the Ayoub Sisters. On Fri 10 Aug George Square welcomes iconic electronic duo Orbital, set to perform a set of new material.

On Tue 7 Aug Glasgow Meets Berlin as the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland perform in a live-linked concert with the Universität der Künste. Another event of interest is the Civic Canteen, open from Thu 9-Sun 12 Aug, which aims to explore food and nourishment through a series of workshops and events.

A must-see of the festival is Sonica Presents Portal, the audiovisual adventure from artist Robbie Thomson and composer Alex Menzies who will transform the Clyde Tunnel walkway into a sensory spectacle. And what's festival without a carnival? The Carnival Procession will make the streets of Glasgow come alive on Sat 4 Aug with local and international community groups joining in.
