Fringe By the Sea announces first names for 2018 festival

Where else could you see the likes of Ruth Davidson or the Sugarhill Gang inside venues like a local chippy?
Fringe By the Sea, North Berwick's very own arts festival, is back for its 10th-anniversary edition with some big changes. New management has taken over the festival and for the first time ever it has been extended to a 10 day run with over 100 performances and events programmed. The new organisers hope to build on the festival's reputation for quirky programming while still keeping it the intimate affair that it is known for.
Today the organisers announced the first batch of events and the programme so far shows the commitment to having 'something for everyone' with big names from the music, literature and comedy world as well as family and kids events.
Highlights to look forward to are Sugarhill Gang and the Furious Five, made up of members from two of hip hop's biggest groups who recently joined forces. Another is comedian Mark Steel who performs his newest stand up show Everything is Going to be Alright, which makes light of the crazy world that we are living in right now. Other highpoints are live conversations with interesting boss ladies like Judy Murray and Ruth Davidson.
The majority of the events take place in the harbour area of the town in specially erected Spiegeltent's, but further events are to be held in interesting events through the town including the unique space of the North Berwick Fry chippy.
Director of Fringe By The Sea, Niall Middleton said: 'Where else will you find Richard Holloway, the Sugarhill Gang, Jerry Sadowitz and Ruth Davidson on the same bill? With just three months to go until the festival kicks-off, the programme is shaping up to surprise and delight in typical Fringe by the Sea fashion.'
Each week, the festival will be making further announcements to the lineup at fringebythesea.com, tickets are also available to buy at this address.
