Last month it was announced that the BBC was hosting a brand new event called the CBBC Summer Social, its first ever outdoor festival dedicated specifically to kids and their families. The event takes place on the first weekend of August and, surprisingly, will be held outside of London in Liverpool's Croxteth Country Park. This decision is part of a partnership with the city's Liverpool 2018 campaign, a year of projects to mark a decade since the city was European Capital of Culture. The event centres around a main stage which features non-stop fun hosted by CBBC veterans Sam and Mark and all of the action broadcasted live on CBBC. Here's what to expect from this unique weekend:

Social Media Stars
YouTube is fast taking over TV as a favourite for kids and teens, so it's not a surprise that the BBC have chosen some of the biggest social media stars to perform at the festival. Singer's HRVY and Max & Harvey, who shot to fame from posting music on music.ly, YouTube and Facebook, are two of the biggest acts set to play the main stage. Joining them is YouTube icon Sophia Grace who found fame on the platform when her mum posted a video of her singing with her cousin. Festival-goers also have the chance to meet some of their favourite social media influencers and creators with vlogger meet-and-greet's throughout the weekend.

Reality TV Talent
Big names from the reality TV world are on the bill with chart-topping boy band Union J of X factor fame playing a massive set as well as season 13 winner Matt Terry. Britain's Got Talent alum will also be there to represent as dance group Mersey Girls and pop-rap duo Bars and Melody showcase their talent and entertain the crowd.

International Music Acts
It's not just British acts representing the music world at CBBC Summer Social, as organisers managed to get their hands on two of the hottest international acts for kids. Johnny Orlando and Mackenzie Ziegler play their only UK show of the year at the festival. Both are social media stars turned pop stars who have racked up millions of views on Youtube and have huge followings.

Top CBBC shows
During the weekend CBBC shows and talent will be out in force with the chance to see CBBC celebs like Hacker T Dog, Naomi Wilkinson and Karim Zeroual in the flesh. You can also expect the most popular shows on the channel like The Worst Witch, Saturday Mash-up!, and The Next Step featured throughout the weekend.

Something for the younger kids
Fortunately for the younger crowd, the festival has made sure there are plenty of things to do for those who love CBeebies. A whole CBeebies Village offers activities and performances from the likes of Mr Tumble, Andy Day, Vet's Tales, Cat Sanion and Ben Cajee. The wee ones can even boogie the day away at a Go Jetters disco or take a cheeky nap (much like adults do at 18+ festivals) with bedtime story readings.

Interesting music
Aside from the plethora of top well-known stars, the weekend also features performances from West End Musicals and the BBC Philharmonic orchestra to introduce the younger audience to the classical music world in a fun setting. On top of this, BBC Introducing and LIMF Live Performance host their own stages with live performances curated by local Merseyside acts.

Fun activities
As it's a festival it's not just about the music but also about the fun things you can do and discover while waiting for your favourite act. For sports fans, Liverpool FC and Everton FC host outdoor sporting activities and for bookworms, there are live performances from popular children's authors. Aside from this, activity highlights are gaming areas, discos, a petting zoo and the possibility of some slime!
