6 delicious Chinese restaurants in Glasgow

Dumpling Monkey
121 Dumbarton Road
This diner, an early resident in Partick’s unofficial Chinatown, offers a compact canteeny setting for top dumplings, steamed buns, noodles and a selection of curry, chicken and other mains. Dumplings are king, whether boiled or fried ‘pot stickers’, packing a tasty punch with the likes of pork and Chinese leaves or beef and carrot.

Ka Ka Lok
175 St Georges Road
Ka Ka Lok is surrounded by other Asian diners yet they rise above through their emphasis on quality and authenticity, with many ingredients imported from China. Their diligent approach elevates food across the menu, and, although not the cheapest, the good portions and top-notch cooking represent good value for money.

Lychee Oriental
59 Mitchell Street
Run by well-kent chef Jimmy Lee, this classy Chinese restaurant is stylish and modern with a warm and intimate feel, serving familiar staples and plenty of specialities. Evident in the food is the quality of ingredients, with big flavours shining through every faultless dish, and the wealth of creativity in the kitchen.

Noodles & Dumplings
23 Gibson Street
It’s hard to imagine fresher headliners than at this diner close to Glasgow University. The dough that goes into a range of noodle dishes, steampots, hotpots and dim sum is made in-house, hand pulled and cooked to order. The menu is extensive and includes authentic touches such as pork entrails and tripe.

Opium
191 Hope Street
Opium, holder of an AA rosette, is an oasis of calm in the bustling city, offering great food and simple elegance. Dishes are mainly Chinese with a sprinkling of Asian influences, such as Thai and Malaysian. Culinary creativity shines through, especially in the excellent dim sum, plus they mix some mean cocktails, including their own creations.

The Real Wan
10 Clincart Road
‘South-western Chinese street food café’ is a bit of a mouthful for this popular Chinese diner, which recently moved to bigger premises in Mount Florida, but the name suits as you’ll find dishes here that you won’t find elsewhere, many of them influenced by the cuisine of the owner’s hometown of Guiyang.

Also try… cheekily named streetfooder Ho Lee Fook and their recent opener Fook Mei close to the Barras.
