6 places to drink in Shawlands
Indie pubs are the name of the game in the Southside

The Corona
1039 Pollokshaws Road
This majestic old building has finally been given the lease of life it deserves and now takes pride of place on the corner of Shawlands Cross. Sport on the big screen, quiz night, Dungeons & Dragons night, Sunday roast... it does everything a community pub is meant to, and it does it all with gusto.
Curious Liquids
28–30 Kilmarnock Road
When there’s sunshine on Shawlands and the Curious wine bar opens its floor-to-ceiling windows and you get one of the lucky tables, it truly is a beautiful thing. Even when the weather’s more typically sombre, there’s still 40 wines by the glass to choose from; surely the biggest range in Glasgow.
Glad Café
1006a Pollokshaws Road
Equally adept as a daytime hangout for creative types or diners wanting something from their completely plant-based menu. But it’s fully licensed and has a solid range of beers to accompany the full arts programme of gigs, comedy nights and film showings that they run. It makes for a great atmosphere.
Henry’s
5 Abbot Street
The Southside’s favourite speakeasy is nestled just off the main drag and does a great number in hushed ambience, exquisite cocktails and delicate small plates of food.
The Marlborough
26 Langside Avenue
The reincarnation of The Shed is still deciding what it wants to be, but what it most certainly is already is an impressive, late-night venue from Wednesday through Sunday that Shawlands flocks to when everywhere else is closed. Live music in the afternoons, DJs in the evenings, cocktail o’clock the whole time.
Phillies Of Shawlands
1179 Pollokshaws Road
Spacious and vibey bar in the evening, with monthly craft brewery residencies and a strong cocktail game. Then, at night-time, it can get very rowdy indeed when the house band or bandaoke nights are on. Understandably popular with big groups.
