There may only be a few days of the Fringe left to enjoy but there's still time to squeeze in all those shows you've been meaning to see. As always, our top rated page is a good place to start for recommendations on what to catch (and what to avoid) but if you're really struggling to pick something, we've got a suggestion that is well worth both your time and pennies.

Gilded Balloon and Funny Women have teamed up to present Funny Women Fest, a comedy chat show that features a daily dose of the funniest females across the Fringe. The lineup changes every day, giving you the chance to enjoy stand-up, interviews and more from comedians, writers, directors and TV stars. Previous guests have included Jane Postlethwaite, Rachel Jackson, Lucy Porter and many others, who have all contributed to a highly successful run of lunchtime comedy so far.

Funny Women Fest is not all about the top-class entertainment though, by attending, you're also contributing to a fantastic cause. Funny Women has partnered with periodpoverty.scot, which is pioneered by Monica Lennon, MSP for Central Scotland and the Scottish Labour Spokesperson on Inequalities, to raise awareness of the issue of period poverty, women's health and safe access to sanitary products. Everyone that buys a ticket is asked to donate a packet of sanitary pads or tampons, which will be distributed to refugees, women's centres and food banks in Scotland.

Speaking of this brilliant partnership, Monica says: 'I'm so pleased that access to period products is high on the agenda during this year's Edinburgh Fringe. Access is a right, not a luxury and no woman should have to go without sanitary products which are essential to their health. That's why I'm working on proposals that will make this a universally accessible right in Scotland for all those who menstruate, and I hope as many people as possible can get involved with the consultation.'

Funny Women was founded by Lynne Parker in 2002, with the aim of supporting women in performance and writing and has since seen some excellent acts go on to comedy stardom. Funny Women Fest is a new format for both Gilded Balloon and Funny Women, but one that will no doubt see a return in future years.
