7 places to eat around Glasgow Botanic Gardens
Home to Alasdair Gray murals and a bustling student population, there are plenty of great places to eat around the Botanics

Crabshakk Botanics
Botanic Gardens Garage, 18 Vinicombe Street
Crabshakk’s second venue opened in this A-listed garage 13 years after the tiny original trailblazed in Finnieston. There’s a similar casual seafood-and-cocktail vibe here amid the smart bar-bistro decor, where the freshest of seafood includes their signature dishes of squid tempura, crab cakes and scallops in anchovy butter.
Ka Pao
Botanic Gardens Garage, 26 Vinicombe Street
The Ox And Finch team opened their second venture in this splendid building (also home to Crabshakk, see above). Food is South-east Asian with a small-plate menu offering vibrant and exciting regional aromas and flavours. There’s a sharing menu for four or more diners where the task of choosing is done for you.
Bread Meats Bread
701 Great Western Road
A decade ago when Glasgow went burger crazy, BMB got on board, rode the wave, expanded and kept on riding. Their success is rooted in top-notch ingredients and a crowd-pleasing sandwich and side selection. Whether its burgers, dogs, subs or toasties, if bread’s involved, then BMB will be doing something special with it.
Òran Mór
Top of Byres Road
This imposing converted church houses restaurants, bars and gig spaces, with Alasdair Gray’s epic ceiling mural in the auditorium. Eclectic menus grounded in Scotland are served in the Beattie And MacLennan Room restaurant, the Fonn Mór wine bar and among the abundant drams in the whisky bar.
Papercup Coffee Company
603 Great Western Road
This stripped-back haven for coffee lovers has been hitting people with caffeine since 2012. There are plenty of beans on rotation to sample, along with a focus on cold brews. Local, careful sourcing dominates a brunchy menu that flits around the globe for inspiration and drifts enticingly into lunchtime.
