Treat that special woman to a music festival, flower arranging workshop, wrestling or gin this Mother's Day

Mother's Day creeps up on us every year, leaving us in a mad panic to think of a gift that'll top last year's. Plenty of restaurants put on decent Mother's Day deals, but if you're wanting to spend the whole day with your number one gal, we've picked some alternative ideas to help. From gin themed spas to musical comedies and Insane Championship Wrestling, here's how to surprise your mum this Mother's Day.

The Gin Spa
If your mum's in need of some TLC, book her into the UK's first gin inspired botanical spa. Their Mother's Day package includes a 30 minute treatment (choose from a back massage, mini facial, reflexology or file and gel polish), afternoon tea with a cocktail teapot, a £10 voucher to use on the next visit and a gift bag filled with chocolate, an Eden Mill cocktail and a packet of the Gin Spa's own hand blended tea.

Mother's Day Bouquet Making Workshop
One of Little Botanica's expert florists show you the techniques required to make a hand tied bouquet, before it's over to you to build your own. When you're happy with your bunch, you'll be shown how to carefully wrap the bouquet to take home. All materials are supplied and all guests receive a complimentary drink on arrival.

Bingo!
This touring show from multi-award winning Scottish theatre companies Grid Iron and Stellar Quines is in Edinburgh over Mother's Day. Daniella is one of two million women who head to the UK's bingo halls each week. Tonight she needs the luck more than ever, or she's going to have to resort to desperate measures to take home that prize money.

Afternoon Tea
A selection of sandwiches, scones, cakes, tea and prosecco are served by Café MILK at Jupiter Artland. Visitors can have afternoon tea before or after walking around the Artland to see the various installations and exhibitions. Tea is served from 12–2pm or 3–5pm. Over in Glasgow you won't find cucumber sandwiches at Chaophraya's afternoon tea, but lots of other tempting Thai bites (£39.90 on Virgin Experience Days).

Insane Championship Wrestling
If your mum's not fazed by the use of thumbtacks, baseball bats or staple guns as weapons then she'll hopefully enjoy Insane Championship Wrestling. ICW was the focus of BBC's Insane Fight Club and appears weekly in over 35 countries across the globe on The Fight Network, Nuvolari and TeleLombardia.

Lake of Stars
The Malawian music and arts festival comes to Glasgow on Mother's Day for a one-day event to celebrate their 15th birthday. Taking place at Glasgow Art School, you can expect performances from Scottish artists L-Space and Bwani Junction, as well as Malawian artists Davie Luhanga, Moyenda, and Kalima. The event is ticketed (£16) after 7pm, when Scott Hutchison from Frightened Rabbit and poet Michael Pedersen will perform alongside other artists from Malawi, Ghana, South Africa and Zambia.
