There's delirium in the air as the breathless Daniel Cook takes to his stage. With barely a breath taken, he spits out a hilarious 'critique' of his venue from the threat of catching a mortal disease to the lack of long cables which results in his tech guy crouched at the front of the stage rather than being positioned at the back. Rant over, he hunkers down into the gist of his theme: money might not be able to buy you love but surely it can allow you some modicum of happiness?

Cook asks the question but never manages to work out a satisfying answer and by the superb finale has almost given up on ever finding a proper solution. 'Compromise! Struggle! Futility!' is his three-pronged mantra as each route to that dream you might be following is blocked off. You don't need to have naturally funny facial expressions to work well in comedy but it clearly helps. Luckily for Cook he has some great lines and stirring routines to back up the physical gear: houseboat-owners might reconsider their life-choice once they hear his withering put-downs.

His hilarious face comes back into play when he attempts to win the EuroMillions lottery right in front of us as the frenetic race to the end picks up. Normally, such a pace would drop but Daniel Cook somehow maintains it all the way through as he considers cash, greed, and the curious tale of Brian Eno and the unclaimed watch.
