Cult Screens set up summer cinemas at the Arena in Digbeth (Jun & Jul) and the Botanical Gardens (Sep). It's a mostly retro programme, with The Lost Boys (Thu 29 Jun), Pulp Fiction (30 Jun) and Top Gun (Fri 15 Sep), as well as Oscar-scooper La La Land (Sat 16 Sep).

Edinburgh International Film Festival's outdoor cinema programme Film Fest in the City moves into St Andrew Square Garden for a long weekend in June (Fri 16–Sun 18). There's a sing-along Trolls (Sat 17 Jun), dance-along Dirty Dancing (Sat 17 Jun) and a dress-up Beauty and the Beast, the 90s Disney version (Sat 17 Jun), as well as screenings of Jim Henson's Labyrinth (Fri 16 Jun), Avengers Assemble (Fri 16 Jun) & Rogue One (Sun 18 Jun). Best of all, it's all free.

Lincoln Castle, one of the best preserved Norman castles in the country, is an apt setting for an outdoor screening of the delightfully anachronistic A Knight's Tale (Fri 22 Sep). Also playing over a long weekend are Pretty Woman (Sat 24 Sep) and La La Land (Sun 25 Sep).

The Rooftop Film Club have rooftop cinemas in Packham, Shoreditch, Stratford and Kensington, all of which are equipped with deckchairs to lounge on and wireless headphones, so you don't miss the dialogue.
