Best comedy festivals taking place in 2017

Laugh it up in Glasgow, Machynlleth, Brighton, Manchester and more
In a world where Donald Trump is the leader of the free world we need a good laugh now more than ever. There is a special rawness to live comedy, of someone stood in front of an expectant audience in a basement trying to enlist laughter. Even in packed arenas, where the faces of comedians sporting Britney-style mics are projected onto massive screens, a rogue heckle or tardy audience member and take a show in a whole new direction. We've selected a septet of comedy festivals to check out in 2017.
Glasgow Comedy Festival
The Glasgow Comedy Festival celebrates its 15th year in 2017 and runs for 18 days at venues across the city. This year's big names include Al Murray, Bridget Christie, Jimmy Carr and David O'Doherty. If you're on the hunt for a new fav check out the mixed bill lineups at WEST Brewery, Drygate or Yesbar, while Blackfriars hosts the festival's Glasgow Late & Live shows, for comedians that didn't get too tanked too early.
