Selena Gomez's passion project, 13 Reasons Why, comes to Netflix on 31 March. Gomez is one of the executive producers on this television adaptation of Jay Asher's bestselling YA novel about a teenage girl who commits suicide and leaves behind a tape explaining why she did so. There is some serious talent involved in the project including Oscar winner Tom McCarthy (Spotlight) as director and Pulitzer Prize winner Brian Yorkey as screenwriter.

The first season of Marvel's Iron Fist premieres on 17 March. It stars Finn Jones in the titular role as a martial-arts wielding superhero and billionaire who reappears in New York City after being presumed dead for 15 years. Also in TV, the second season of Judd Apatow comedy Love (10 Mar) appears as does the first season of South Korean fantasy drama, One More Time (10 Mar), a show that revolves around an indie singer who repeatedly undergoes unwanted time slips.

Rooney Mara and Jason Segel star as lovers in The Discovery (31 Mar), a sci-fi film written and directed by Charlie McDowell (The One I Love) set one year after the existence of the afterlife is scientifically verified. This chilling concept sees the young couple wrangle with their lives and ponder the true meaning of the afterlife while those around them commit suicide to get there.

In 1983, just days before the birth of his first son, writer and theologian John Hull went blind so he began recording his daily life on audiocassette. Notes on Blindness (15 Mar) approaches the subject in an creative way in this unmissable documentary.

Also available in film and making their way directly to Netflix from Sundance are Burning Sands (10 Mar), a dark drama about the horrors of hazing set at a fictional all-black university, directed by Gerard McMurray and comedy caper, Deidra & Laney Rob a Train (17 Mar) directed by Sydney Freeland. Tom Hanks fans can do a double bill of Captain Phillips and A Hologram for the King (both 1 Mar) and Ryan Gosling fans should appreciate his turn as a private eye with no sense of smell in Shane Black's comedy The Nice Guys (15 Mar).
