November sees the fourth edition Dunoon's annual film festival. Running over a long weekend (Fri 11–Sun 13 Nov) this year's focus is reinvention. As their home venue, Dunoon Burgh Hall, continues its refurbishment the festival looks at the ways in which we re-invent ourselves and others as well as our town and country. The small but beautifully formed programme includes feature films, underwater footage, shorts especially chosen by young programmers and an animation workshop, with offerings selected from the UK, US, France and New Zealand. Scratch'n'Sniff Matilda
In the children's author's centenary year we just can't get enough of Roald Dahl and his wonderful creations. The 1996 classic was directed by, and starred, Danny Devito, as well as child star Mara Wilson and Pam Ferris as the fearsome Trunchbull. This screening is accompanied by a scratch'n'sniff card so you can smell along with the film. Remember when the Trunchbull says the cook's 'flesh and blood went into this cake', let's hope it just smells of chocolate.

Moon Dogs
Released in June 2016 and premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival Moon Dogs offers a Scottish version of the classic road-trip tale. Here step brothers Michael and Thor are joined by Irish waitress Caitlin on a journey from Shetland to Glasgow, where she wants to play Celtic Connections. Expect hilarious moments, glorious Scottish scenery and cameos from Denis Lawson and Shauna Macdonald in this coming-of-age feature debut from Philip John.

Stanley Kubrick: A Life In Pictures
Director Jan Harlan will introduce the screening of this feature-length documentary about the formidable filmmaker and discuss his experiences working with him. Kubrick, who directed The Shining, A Clockwork Orange and 2001: A Space Odyssey died in 1999. This documentary contains interviews with his people who collaborated with him as well as those who were influenced by his work and legacy. Talking heads include Nicole Kidman, Jack Nicholson, Woody Allen, Steven Spielberg, Shelley Duvall and Martin Scorsese.

Lucky Star LIVE
The festival opens with the romantic silent melodrama Lucky Star. Starring Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell, a popular screen team from the late silent era, it tells the story of a couple separated by the First World War. The screening is accompanied by a live score from Polish-born, Glasgow based singer-songwriter Ela Orleans, known for accompanying her live gigs with projections of her own home made films.

Down Where The Buffalo Go
A Dunoon-shot film is brought back to the town. Made for BBC's Play On One series in 1988 Down Where The Buffalo Go was written by Scottish playwright Peter McDougall and directed by Ian Knox. American actor Harvey Keitel plays Carl, a US Marine in marital crisis as he wishes to stay in Scotland while his new wife wants to make a life in America. The film is set at Holy Loch naval base, one of the areas most affected by 'the special relationship' between UK and US militaries. Screenwriter Peter McDougall will be on hand to introduce the screening and take part in a Q&A.
