9 great bars in Stockbridge

The Antiquary

72–78 St Stephen Street
You might hear accordion chords drifting from this basement bar on Thursday folk-music nights. Aside from musical sessions, the food is comforting, real ales and craft pints are on tap, and the maze of rooms give it an inviting atmosphere. Great Sunday roast too.

The Captain Darling

16–18 Hamilton Place
The good Captain has brought back the prawn cocktail, shepherd’s pie and steak frîtes to our streets, alongside Sunday roasts and a bargain workers’ lunch. There’s also a decent wine list and plenty of seats at the bar.

Crybaby

4–6 Dean Street
This dark, neon-lit spot promises good food, strong drinks and loose morals. Cocktails are king; if that’s not your bag, there’s a handful of draught beers, one of each colour of wine or get fingerlickin’ with about ten chicken wing iterations.

The Last Word

44 St Stephen Street
Moody subterranean saloon with flickering candlelight creating a snug vibe. With a fine list of single malts, blends and world whiskies, as well as flights and a strong cocktail showing, it offers the perfect spot for a nightcap.

The Stockbridge Tap

2–6 Raeburn Place
Following a major revamp in spring 2026, The Tap now boasts outdoor seating and a classy blue exterior. Inside, it’s deep burgundy walls, an expanded bar area and a succinct menu (try the steak frîtes baguette with peppercorn sauce) helpfully printed on their coasters.

St Vincent Bar

11 St Vincent Street
The Vinnie is old-school Edinburgh pub personified, with its dark-wood interior and button-back banquettes. There’s a wee outdoor patio too. And did we mention they love pups here? Their Dog Wall is covered in framed portraits of four-legged regulars.

Also try… upstairs-downstairs eccentricity at St Bernard’s Bar, comfort classics and topping up the tan at The Raeburn and atmosphere aplenty at cute-as-a-button Kay’s Bar.
