9 hotspots for group dining in Glasgow

The Dhabba
44 Candleriggs
Among the best Indians around, The Dhabba is an open, airy venue doing North Indian food. From street-style dishes to tandoori sizzlers and slow-cooked biryani, the menu is marked for special dieters, while vegetarian and vegan diners will feel spoiled. They can do super-large groups and there are set menus for four-plus.

Dishoom
6–11 Nelson Mandela Place
The Bombay cuisine specialist opened in the old Stock Exchange this summer to queues out the door, with diners clamouring for their inventive cuisine from breakfast to dinner. Group feast menus for ten-plus are available, offering Dishoom faves for everyone to share, whatever the dietary requirements.

Piccolo Mondo
344 Argyle Street
This long-standing restaurant has lots of old-school charm, lovely décor and top-quality Italian food. Numerous menus include the one-stop Celebration option, offering three courses of food plus multiple drinks. There is plenty for anyone in a group to enjoy, including specific dieters who can mix and match across set menus.

Royâ
59 Elmbank Street
Persian cuisine is celebrated at this tenement opposite the King’s Theatre. There’s a luxe feel to décor and food, where dishes come tapas-style, from mezze and kebabs to shawarma and sourdough pide. Banquet menus for five to 20 people allow those on special diets to swap around, with extensive vegan and gluten-free options.

Sapporo Teppanyaki
2–6 Ingram Street
This Merchant City restaurant is the only teppanyaki (hot-plate cooking) specialist in town. Diners sit around teppan tables (standard tables are available) while the chefs do a bit of theatre, slicing, dicing, frying and flaming their way through various tasting menus of Japanese favourites, from sushi and gyoza to grilled meats and seafood.

Ting Thai
94 Byres Road
Being close to Glasgow University makes Ting Thai a top option for groups. The Edinburgh Thai specialists picked a nice corner spot for their second venue in town (the other is West Nile Street). Their soups, noodles, curries and more are clearly marked when vegan options are available, plus gluten-free dishes and nuts are flagged.

Also try... South-east Asian small-platers Ka Pao for a set menu for four-plus, Ardnamurchan for a Scottish feast using various set celebration menus or Ka Ka Lok for a choice of Chinese and British menus
