9 restaurants to BYOB in Glasgow

Banana Leaf
192 St Vincent Street
Having left their long-standing home on Old Dumbarton Road, the team at Banana Leaf recently moved into the city centre, taking over a low-level diner. The simple, smart décor is a big step up from the old place, but this is the same chefs, same excellent South Indian food, same nice prices and same free corkage.

Chillies West End
176–182 Woodlands Road
For more than 15 years, this curry house has kept Woodlands spice-lovers happy, whether in its contemporary diner or dedicated takeaway. Familiar Indian dishes of pakora, tandoori, biryanis, naans, etc are elevated by fresh, vibrant flavours. No corkage charge (wine/beer only) unless you’re in a group of nine or more.

The Den
1347 Argyle Street
The Mother India group’s somewhat confusing set-up means this cosy wee diner, at the rear of their Dining In takeaway shop and adjacent to their tapas café, is something of a secret. The usual high standard of Indian food comes in a pared-down, lighter menu, great for enjoying with your own wine (corkage £3.50).

The Hidden Lane Tearoom
Unit 8, The Hidden Lane
A secretive lane in Finnieston is home to this quirky, vintage-loving tearoom serving breakfasts, light lunches and afternoon teas (available in gluten-free and vegan versions). There’s outdoor seating where dogs are welcome and diners can bring wine/bubbly (£4 corkage) or cans of premixed spirits (£1.50 corkage).

Satu Satu
97 St Georges Road
Close to St Georges Cross, this Asian diner is different. That it does Chinese-Malaysian cuisine is fairly unusual; that it specialises in desserts, from sweet soups and tofu puds to bubble waffles, is downright idiosyncratic. It used to be (oddly) closed at weekends, but now opens Saturday night, so party with BYOB for zero corkage.

Also try... Glasgow’s Southside for plenty of BYO options, such as Vietnamese diner Little Hoi An, and Chinese streetfooder The Real Wan, or if you’re in the mood for pizza, Errol’s Hot Pizza and Caesar’s Social. Check with venues for permitted drinks and corkage.
