As expected, many comedians have been lamenting Brexit during their Fringe shows. Not just because of the broader implications for this predominantly left-leaning profession but because it happened only six weeks ahead of the Fringe, leaving no one (except, seemingly, Bridget Christie) enough time to deal with it properly. While Zoe Lyons certainly doesn't explore the referendum in great depth, the shockwaves of its result seem to have spurred her to put politics at the fore of this year's show.

There's still plenty of her trademark observational material and delightfully bonkers anecdotes, from her upbringing by Catholic parents in rural Ireland to a seemingly idyllic life in Brighton with her Dutch wife (charmingly exploited here for a wonderful story involving cross-cultural miscommunication and cake). On stage, Lyons' physicality and enthusiasm really help to bring these stories to life and she has an extraordinary ability to knit together seemingly disparate subjects for maximum impact.

But it's the dominance of right-wing rhetoric across the political and geographical landscape that really pushes her buttons and dominates this set. Lyons is an exuberant, fast-thinking and intelligent performer, whose set is incisive and hilarious no matter where her focus lies.
