Luke Courtier: Lunch

Intelligent musical comedy with a high-end bent
From Backstreet Boys and Thomas, Duke of Clarence, to foie gras and a duck called Susan, Luke Courtier's Lunch takes audiences on a meander through a series of vignettes under a loose theme, interwoven with musical comedy.
The show sees Courtier mockingly assume the persona of the posh, and mildly arrogant lad, alluding to Made in Chelsea-type clichés and over-the-top stereotypes. But overall, there's a sophistication that allows for intelligent and quick-witted pop culture references as well as stories about seemingly random occurrences, including being eaten by lions and desperately wanting Aesop Exfoliating Hand Soap.
There are times when the show deviates from the theme in a way that doesn't make a huge amount of sense. It's also clear that the constant mention of high-end brands and expensive foodstuffs are occasionally lost on the crowd. But Courtier acknowledges this, making his stories purposely inaccessible to ridicule the character he has created. Lunch is fast-paced and laden with amusing anecdotes, each song accompanied by Courtier's syrupy vocals and finger-picked guitar. It's a show that explores the concept of a mealtime where anything could happen, through music and comical contemplation.
