Come August in Edinburgh it seems every church, every pub back room and every space in the student union is sporting a venue number and squeezing in audiences. Grassed spaces are suddenly dotted with tents, bars pop-up all over the place and new spaces are opened up to eager Fringe crowds. We take a look at some of the newest Fringe venues for 2016.

The Picturehouse Travelling Cinema
The inaugural Edinburgh Digital Entertainment Festival launches this summer, bringing together the worlds of arts, entertainment and technology with event cinema screenings, a Virtual Reality Studio and the chance to test out ground-breaking new gadgetry in the Tech Hub. Parked on George Street is the Picturehouse Travelling Cinema, an articulated lorry with a 100-seat cinema inside. Strands include classic musicals, visions of the future and the scary 70s. Step inside to see Flash Gordon, Invasion of the Bodysnatchers or Ex-Machina.

Gilded Balloon at the Museum
Fringe veterans Gilded Balloon are moving into the National Museum of Scotland. The company already have venues at Teviot Row House, their base, and the Counting House, where shows are all 'pay what you want'. The museum space is 210 seat, wheelchair-accessible auditorium, entered from Lothian Street. Shows cover theatre, music, comedy and children's performances, with big names on the bill including Horse McDonald and Rory Bremner.

C scala
C venues have taken over a new space for their 25th year at the Fringe. C scala is housed in the A-listed church Saint Stephen's in Stockbridge and has a cafe bar and a terrace. The programme features children's shows and music, as well as physical theatre from Ockham's Razor, tipped as one of our best circus shows at the Fringe.

The Titter Truck
Parked up on the grassmarket is one of the smallest venues at the Fringe, with just 10 seats and a stage measuring 1m2.. The Titter Truck hosts twenty, ten-minute shows at day, for the bargain price of £1 a show. The venue is run by Total Comedy who want to encourage more risk-taking from Fringe audiences, coaxing them to take a chance and see something new, as opposed to TV names and five-star shows. The intimate space hosts stand-up, theatre, sketch, improv, music, cabaret and art.

Underbelly Circus Hub
Okay not a brand new, but pretty new. Underbelly's Circus Hub arrived in Edinburgh for the first time in 2015 and returns to the Meadows this August. It's the only major venue dedicated to circus and is fully accessible. The space is made up of two big tops, the Lafayette (named after the great illusionist) seats 750 and The Beauty (named after Lafayette's dog) seats 250. Shows at Underbelly Circus Hub include Closer by Circa, Joli Vyann: Imbalance and A Simple Space by Australian troupe Gravity & Other Myths.
