Adorable Man: Tu Strange magic review – Gross-out magic with a twist

There’s a particular kind of performer who understands that magic isn’t just about fooling you, it’s about making you laugh and fooling you. Adorable Man: Tu Strange leans hard into that philosophy, running classic magic through what feels like a kid’s gross-out science experiment book. The result? Equal parts delight and mild nausea, in the best possible way.
The show carries a strong echo of The Amazing Johnathan from the 1990s: chaotic, cheeky and just a little bit unhinged. Tu Strange plays the lovable weirdo brilliantly, blending sleight-of-hand with physical comedy and a steady stream of ‘did he really just do that?’ moments. Some tricks feel knowingly upcycled from the classic magician’s toolkit, but that’s part of the charm. They’re twisted, stretched and occasionally dunked into something that would feel right at home in a school science lab or a prank show.
It’s family friendly in the sense that everyone will laugh… though younger audience members may be slightly better equipped for the squirmier moments. Adults might want to follow the golden rule and not attend on a full stomach. Ultimately, what makes the show work is Tu Strange’s ability to keep the room giggling while gently pushing the boundaries of what ‘polite’ magic looks like: it’s gross, goofy and oddly charming magic with a mischievous wink.
