Alan Cumming, Calvin Harris and Glasvegas among nominees at Scottish Style Awards 2009

Glasgow certainly knows how to do things with class, and this year’s Scottish Style Awards look set to raise the bar even higher. The starry event takes place on Hallowe’en and their stylish cauldron is likely to be spilling over with high profile appearances.
Now in its fifth year, organisers are promising the festivities will be bigger and bolder than ever before. Hosted by pop singer Sophie Ellis Bextor, the Awards will be held at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow.
Established as a celebration of the individuals and enterprises that ‘enrich society’ through their activities in fashion, music, the arts, stage, screen, retail and hospitality, there will be thirteen categories in total. This year’s nominees include Gerard Butler, Alan Cumming, Calvin Harris, Glasvegas, All Saints, Topshop and Boudiche.
As in previous years, all eyes will be on the Fashion Designer of the Year runway show, which celebrates this year’s hottest design stars. Previous recipients of the award include such talent as Jonathan Saunders, Christopher Kane, Aimee McWilliams and Derryck Walker.
Guests will also have a chance to catch a glimpse of the stars of the future with the New Talent fashion showcase.
Awards founder Mary McGowne said of this year’s line-up: ‘The 2009 nominees highlight those Scots who have pushed the proverbial envelope and represents the face of modern Scotland. With the unmissable Fashion Designer of the Year runway show and stunning live music performance, the Scottish Style Awards promises once again to be Scotland’s most stylish night of the year.’
Host Sophie Ellis Bextor added: ‘Music and fashion go hand in hand but the presenting is something new for me. It is such a huge, prestigious event so I was very flattered to be asked.’
