With an extra hour in bed and an earlyish start to the Sunday, you could have forgiven many of the Haddowfest goers for deciding to turn up a little later than expected for this year’s event. Thankfully that wasn’t the case, as a bright-eyed bunch packed into the intimate Whistlebinkies to see Broken Records kick off the all-day music festival. The six-piece from Edinburgh provided a powerful lunchtime performance and a unique blend of drums, guitars, violin, trumpet and keyboard, which helped to blow away any lingering cobwebs from the previous nights Halloween parties. From there, Gold Lions, a rock duo from the capital, carried on the impressive start by putting in a superb performance down at The Caves. Next on the bill were The Stagger Rats, who have been on the circuit for a few years now and have built up a steady following through their singles on iTunes. Their uplifting 30-minute set left the crowd shouting for more as they departed the stage. Dundee’s finest Anderson, McGinty, Webster, Ward and Fisher, brought a relaxed folk feel to The Caves with their set, which was enjoyed by the lead singer of The View, Kyle Falconer. Meursault carried on where AMWWF had left off, giving the crowd an emotionally charged hour-long indie folk set.

Then it was onto the HMV Picture House for the days eagerly anticipated main event. Edinburgh’s Nature Boys kicked off their last ever performance, with flamboyant frontman Cammy Shiels entering the stage dressed as popular nineties American wrester, Hulk Hogan. Up next were Mazes, who not only put in an assured performance, but are also currently supporting The Cribs on their UK tour. As the crowds were now beginning to gather, it was time for the evenings support act and Edinburgh’s finest, The 10:04s. At their Sunday best and storming through an explosive 30 minute set, one which would have had the headliners looking on in awe, the four-piece’s set list included latest singles 'SOS' and 'Lights Out', before finishing off their slot with a popular song amongst their following, 'About Tonight'. As the dust settled, the now fully packed out venue was ready and waiting for what turned out to be The Cribs at their blistering best. The brothers from Wakefield kicked off their set with 'Come on, Be a No-One' before firing through classic hits including 'Our Bovine Public', 'Girls Like Mystery', 'I’m a Realist' and 'Men’s Needs'. Crowd surfing was in full swing, pints were being hurled through the air and a mosh pit had formed at the front of the stage, as the public were fair enjoying their Sunday evening. No encore was provided, but an eerie performance of 'City of Bugs' brought the curtains down on this years hugely successfully Haddowfest. The festival organisers will have a job on their hands trying to top that next year, but one they’ll no doubt relish and achieve.
