Dunfermline’s Outwith Festival has filled out its line-up of Scottish indie acts with a headline performance from Falkirk act Arab Strap, Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton’s veteran post-rock act famed for their deeply personal songs about sex, drugs, alcohol and (more recently) the fractured state of politics in the UK.

The band have enjoyed a new lease of life after the release of their latest album I'm Totally Fine With It Don't Give A Fuck Anymore, a post-covid reaction to a world increasingly dictated by online toxicity and loneliness that received a SAY Award nomination. They’ve most recently released Encrypted Valentines, an EP of alternative versions from I’m Totally Fine With It…, while continuing to play regular live shows.

Joining them on the day are Rock Action labelmates The Twilight Sad, who’ll play a stripped back set of their most loved songs (and possibly a few new ones as they continue to tease a new album); Edinburgh favourite Siobhan Wilson; and Fife outfit Sergeant, who’ve previously supported the likes of Oasis, Supergrass, The Fratellis and Courteeners.

Also on the bill are Glasgow-based Haiver, fronted by former Frightened Rabbit guitarist Billy Kennedy; Dundee’s glam rock mainstay Connor Liam Byrne; psych-pop trio Gulp; alt-punk duo The Twistettes; Edinburgh-based indie group, The Super Moons, and more. Taking place at The Glen Pavilion in Pittencrieff Park, it’ll also play host to the Dunfermline City Artisan Market and a variety of food and drink stalls.

The music all-dayer will take place on Saturday 6 September as part of Outwith’s five-day celebration of arts and culture, running from Wednesday 3 – Sunday 7 September.

Included in the film strand of the festival is a double bill of features from the Master Of Suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, The Lodger and The 39 Steps. Those classics will be joined by a 40th anniversary screening of Restless Natives, a short film night from local directorial talent, and a number of short film screenings aimed at younger audiences.

Also on the bill is an interview with prolific crime writer Ian Rankin, a performance of the jukebox musical Mary, Queen Of Rock!, a showcase of music from young bands based in Fife, a number of visual art exhibitions, and a handful of creative workshops for budding artists.
